Do You Know What Time to Post?

September 4, 2012

I had an email forwarded to me from a friend the other day that caught my eye. It was about the peak times to post on facebook and twitter to receive optimal views. More important it shared when NOT to post on social media sites.

I thought I would post a few of the insights:

Best times to post on Facebook: The best click-through rates are seen between 1 and 4 p.m. (notice when I’m posting this), with the peak on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Best times to Tweet: The best click-through rates are seen between 1 and 3 p.m., Monday – Thursday.

Worst Times to Post to Social Media: The Weekends! Click-through rates are low as is overall traffic. Twitter begins fading after 3 p.m. on Friday.

Optimal number of posts per day: One! Studies also show that engagement drops as the number of posts per day increases.

Best content to post: Engaging content, like video or photos. Image-rich content typically takes up more space in the newsfeed and timeline and is more likely to evoke comments and likes, pushing your content to a larger audience.

Want to make a posted photo or video bigger on Facebook?
Click the star in the upper-right corner of your post to highlight it, which will double the size of the image or video in your timeline.

Want to keep a post at the top of your Facebook Page?
In the upper right, click the pencil next, then “Pin to Top” to fix a post to the top of the timeline for seven days.

Also, the email included a great quote that I thought went along with Thrive’s Blog last week.

“Social media isn’t the end-all-be-all, but it offers marketers unparalleled opportunity to participate in relevant ways. It also provides a launchpad for other marketing tactics. Social Media is not an island. It’s a high-power engine on the larger marketing ship.”

Hope these social media tips help!

I don’t see any “pin to top.”

Hmmm….that pencil trick didn’t work. I don’t have the option to “pin it to the top.”
