Google Starts a Groupon Competing Service

January 24, 2011

After failing to buy out Groupon for $6 – billion, Google has decided to launch a competing service. Google has created their own online daily local coupons with Google Offers. Google Offers will work like Groupon sending subscribers deals in their neighborhood. Also like Groupon, after enough people buy the coupon the deal is “tipped” and the discount is on.

Here is what Google had to say of their latest venture, ”Google is communicating with small businesses to enlist their support and participation in a test of pre-paid offer/vouchers program. This initiative is an ongoing effort at Google to make new products, such as the recent Offer Ads beta, that connects businesses with customers in new ways. we do not have more details at this time, but will keep you posted.”

How do you feel about Google launching a Groupon type service. Do you think there are enough “deals” already out there or do you want to see more?
